Anshen & Allen, an architectural firm based in San Francisco, was established in 1940 by Modernists Robert Anshen and Steve Allen. Both had graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1936. Anshen & Allen initially specialized in residential architecture and were the first architects for Eichler Homes, designing the prototypes for Joseph Eichler in 1949. Anshen & Allen eventually expanded disciplines and opened offices throughout the United States and England. Notable Anshen & Allen projects include the Dinosaur National Monument Visitors’ Center in Vernal, Utah (1957), the Chapel of the Holy Cross in Sedona, Arizona (1956-57), and the Lawrence Hall of Science in Berkeley (1965-68).
