THE ARCHITECTURE & ART OF BART - [WALKING TOUR]

  • Glen Park Station - BART San Francisco, CA 94131 United States (map)

After decades of planning, design, and construction, the Bay Area Rapid Transit system opened to the public in 1972. Join us on a tour on Saturday, Aug. 17, 2024, to learn about the history, Mid-Century Modern design, and art of BART. The tour will visit several BART stations in San Francisco designed by prominent local Modern architects and architecture firms, including Ernest Born and Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM).

Please note, in addition to the ticket fee, attendees will need to purchase their own BART fare of $4.60. Paper tickets are no longer sold at BART kiosks; instead, plastic Clipper cards can be purchased for $3, or you can load a "virtual" Clipper card onto your Apple Pay or Android wallet. Children 4 and under ride for free. More information can be found here.

Starting Location: This tour will meet at Glen Park Station and end at the Embarcadero Station.

Parking: We recommend taking public transit for this public transit tour! If you are driving to the meeting location, parking is limited to street parking around Glen Park Station.

Tickets are available for Docomomo US members first (a perk of membership!) and then are released to all, with a discounted rate for members.
