This tour was so popular that we are doing another run! Developed in the 1870s as a Victorian neighborhood for middle-class San Franciscans, Pacific Heights soon became the city's Gold Coast, offering views downtown and across the bay to a wealthy clientele. As such, the neighborhood offers a rare collection of First and Second Bay Area Tradition homes by architects Willis Polk, Ernest Coxhead, Julia Morgan, A. Page Brown, Bernard Maybeck, William Wurster, John Dinwiddie, Gardner Dailey, Joseph Eichler, and Erich Mendelsohn. This 2.5-hour walking tour by resident enthusiast Ted Barrow, PhD (and Docomomo US/NOCA Symposium Grant Recipient), examines the unexpected continuities and historical context of the regional architectural character of the Pacific Heights and Presidio Heights neighborhoods.
